Pregnant? Want to Stay Fashionable AND Comfy??

Now I really don't want this blog dedicated to fashion during pregnancy but it's really difficult as I am currently pregnant! So I will dedicate a few posts on what to wear if you find out the wonderful news that you're pregnant and your belly continuously gets larger!! (It's not so bad!) So far I find that I can keep my current style with only minor adjustments.
No, I can't wear my jeans anymore.
No, I can't wear my tighter, smaller fit shirts but I can still keep my normal style of clothes, without dragging myself to some cheap, ugly maternity section in a department store.

So the main question is... How can I stay fashionable AND comfy??

My best advice is to WEAR LEGGINGS! They are so comfortable and I can still wear some of my longer, flowy tops over them. I have about 8 pairs which I rotate in and out of my daily wear. Mine are black, gray, white, full leg length, and some are cut short near my calves. There are several leggings that are more dressy with ruffles, snaps, and ties on them. Those are just as comfy (and extra cute)! So just because you're pregnant, doesn't mean you have to wobble around in sweats. Feel free to, but leggings and a loose shirt is just as comfy for me! And I don't end up feeling like a huge cow! LOL

Do You Wear Red Lipstick?

I have always wanted to pull off wearing a deep shade of red lipstick. I think it looks sexy and sophisticated, especially if it's worn correctly. You have to lay off the make-up concentrated around the eyes and accentuate the lips solely. I recently bought L'Oreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lip Gloss in the Rebel Red shade. I wore it a few times so far and I absolutely love it. I can't wear it just everywhere yet because... well I feel weird being 24 weeks pregnant and wearing red lip stick in public. I think it's just me being a bit self-conscious about possibly looking "trashy" but... anyways... I still love it and will post some personal pictures in the future!

I read a yahoo featured article titled "Why do men hate these popular trends women love?" and it lists women wearing red lipstick as one of the trends men despise! I'm totally shocked because I think it makes us look great! (and seductive! which you'd think men would like) I know my fiancé thinks red lipstick is hott... I asked him why and here's his response.

Me- "Bill, why do you like women who wear red lipstick?"
Bill- *embarrassed* "I don't know why!"
Me- "Well why? There must be some kind of reason."
Bill- "I don't know, why do I have to have a reason??"
Me- "Come on, just give me a reason..."
Bill- "There's no reason." *pause* "I just like it! It's the same reason guys prefer blonds or brunettes. There's no reason."

FAIL. Sorry he was so inconclusive... I expected too much when I thought I'd find some miraculous answer to why some men actually do like red lipstick on women. However, he gave the typical male response. "I dunno." I knew I shouldn't have pushed him too far.. haha (just kidding!)

Please tell me your opinions!

French Braid/Bun Up Do

When you're trying to become more "fashionable", don't forget about your hair! You can top off an outfit with the perfect up do. Here is something I accidentally made up today. I was trying to french braid my hair when I suddenly lost hold of the three strands. Instead of getting frustrated and starting over, I quickly hair-tied the french braided section (which I was lucky to be done adding more sections of hair to the braid and was only working on the last regular braid). Then I put the ponytail into a low bun. I split the hair into three sections and wrapped each section around the hair-tie, fastening each end with a bobby pin. Beforehand, I left out pieces of hair to frame my face. I usually do this when I french braid my hair, or for any updo for that matter! I curled those pieces and ended up bobby-pinning some back. You don't have to do that... but I like it because it gives a flirty touch!

Updo Hint: Add Max & Chloe Dangling Earrings!

Charlotte Russe Sequin Tank

Here is a $5.00 brand new (with tags!) Charlotte Russe sequin tank I found at Plato's Closet. It's originally $20.00, so I'd say "ANOTHER SUPER GREAT FIND!" I plan on wearing this tank layered over another solid colored tank with a cute black mini-skirt or tight black pants :)

Kimberly's Boutique in Downtown Rockford

There's no better time than the only sunny day amidst many cold, dreary days to take a romantic walk through a cute downtown area with your fiancé. We walked the streets of downtown Rockford and came across many cute shops and boutiques. We stopped along the bridge over the dam to enjoy the beautiful scenery and then finished our afternoon by eating hot dogs at the Corner Bar.

Here are some cute accessories I passed by while window shopping. These accessories come from Kimberly's Boutique, which is a very cute store I wish I could have bought several things from!

Layer Tops with Flowy Vests

Try adding flowy vests to any top for an added glamor effect. Vests, sometimes called sleeveless cardigans (like these, these, and these) can often pull an entire outfit together quickly, significantly raising your fashion meter. With many clothing items, the more detail & pizazz on it, the better! However, a simple black or white vest can top off a decked out short sleeve top just as well.

Warm up a Summer Dress

Today, I really wanted to wear this black floral H&M dress I bought last summer. The sun is so bright and shiny today [I CAN'T WAIT TIL SPRING]! But when I opened my slider door to let in some fresh air, a pretty chilly 40 degrees rush of air hit me. Yes, it's a big improvement in our current Michigan weather but it's still not really warm yet. So instead of pushing my dress further back into my closet I decided to layer an old sweater I rarely wear underneath it. And it turned out just great!

Which Fashion Belt will You Wear?

Fashionable Belts you can wear with...
  • Plain Dresses to spice them up. Choose wider belts with more detail to create a killer look!
  • Long, Old Sweaters you don't like anymore (or those Sweaters you still like!)
  • Long Shirts
  • Cardigans- Place belt over cardigan to keep it semi-closed, rather than buttoning it
  • Shawls- Some shawls can be long & super flowy (which is GREAT!) but hold the outfit together with a skinny to normal width belt.

    Stunning Lace

If you haven't already noticed, I absolutely love lace. It's so beautiful and pretty to look at. Wear it with any outfit and it will immediately add a subtle sexiness to your appearance! Due to the delicate nature of lace, take extra care when washing it. Read the cleaning instructions on the clothing tag. Normally I wash mine regularly and then air dry it. My dryer tends to shred and ruin lace.

Best Way to Wear a Denim Jacket

Unsure of whether or not denim jackets are back in style?  I've been trying to figure out the best way to wear one and I came to this conclusion. Try wearing a regular length, thin, denim jacket over a summer dress. It's comfortable, cute, and you'll be sure to draw some eyes towards your direction.

    Say No to Toe Socks!

Alright, so we all remember the "toe sock craze" that occurred a few years ago, maybe it was 5 years plus... Even though these socks had cool designs all over them and were super cute, how many of us actually took the time to put all ten of our toes into each little slot? Annoying! I just recently moved across the state and had to organize all of my belongings. I found dozens of these ridiculous toe socks in the back of my sock drawer that I had never even worn! Several had new price tags still on! Some were super thick and had poof balls and even cat whiskers sewn onto them! Why waste my precious drawer space? I was never going to wear them again. I'm far too lazy to spend the time decorating my feet that will just be covered by some sweet shoes anyways. Needless to say, I donated them to Goodwill immediately.
